2016 Bodegas Vilaplana “Diez Dias De Marzo”, Granada

Cold Days Bring Warm Memories

Diez Dias De Marzo, meaning “Ten Days in March”, is a 2016 vintage crafted from a blend of rare, high-altitude white grapes.

Hailing from a hidden gem of a winery far up into the Sierra De Baza Mountains of Spain, away from pollution and disorder, where the soils are sandy and loose, pristine meltwaters nurture the plants and give life to the region.

This vineyard takes advantage of the environment around it to produce grapes of complexity that are transformed into truly memorable wines.

And as the name suggests, for 10 days in March, these precious grapes freeze over then thaw again before being harvested, giving a unique silkiness to the wine that simply can’t be found anywhere else.

This is one to crack open with friends while enjoying its rarity and creating cherished memories. I guarantee this is unlike anything you’ve ever tasted.

Tasting Notes

The complexity of this wine comes down to a number of factors, including the growing environment. But it’s the blend of Macabeo, Muscat, and native Jaen Blanca grapes that really give this white purpose and meaning.

On the nose, Muscat gives you floral and fresh fruit notes, with hints of elderflowers. On the palate, this vintage really starts to come to life. It starts silky and smooth, then does a flavorful dance of peach, apple, green banana, and subtle lemon peel

Macabeo grapes provide a sharpness as the dance comes to an end. Jaen Blanca brings a beautiful medium body to the wine, striking the perfect balance between texture and flavor.

While being flat, this has the aroma of a fine sparkling white with a deep golden hue.

This vintage is begging to be paired with seafood, rice, and anything grilled. Try tuna salad with pomegranate. Or a board of your favorite cheeses. You won’t regret it.

A Rare Production to Grace Your Rack

Production from the Sierra De Baza is truly tiny and worth snatching up. Only 4000 bottles are made per year, and they fly off the shelves quicker than a toupee on a windy day.

Stocking wines from this humble vineyard always see a fantastic response from my followers. This is a chance to taste first-class white at an unbelievable price point. Plus, you simply won’t find this vintage available anywhere else.

As a passionate sommelier, certain wines come along that light a fire in my belly, and it becomes my mission to share them with the world. Diez Dias De Marzo is no exception.
