I don’t even know if I can put “Chambertin Grand Cru” and the word “affordable” in the same sentence, but this is one of those rare case that I can!
Chambertin, Napoleon’s favorite wine, one of the most highly thought after wines in the world, most famously by Armand Rousseau, Leroy, and Dugat Py. A bottle of their 2008 Chambertin will set you back from $2200-$5000+
So.. Guess what I have today?
2008 Nicolas Potel Chambertin Grand Cru
If you haven’t heard of Nicolas Petal, don’t worry, he’s not just some random guy from the street, he’s the son of Gerard Potel, of the famous Domaine de la Pousse d’Or. When his father passed away in the mid 1990s, he sold Pousse d’Or and started Nicolas Potel. Given his background, it wasn’t a surprise when he won the best new winemaker award in 2003, creating a huge buzz internationally.
Unfortunately, his grew too much too soon, and ran into financial problems 10 years later and eventually had to give up Nicolas Potel in 2009.
With that said, this led me to the best deal of Burgundy I will offer this year…
