Robert Parker has written that Branaire is “largely ignored by speculators, (but) is favored by wine drinkers…The finest vintages are magnificently scented, deep, rich wines that are as good as other top wines of St. Julien.”

Château Branaire-Ducru is a Fourth Growth Bordeaux according to the official classification of 1855. The 123-acre estate is in St.-Julien-Beychevelle, on the left bank of the Gironde River. It is owned by the Marotteaux family and produces up to 180,000 bottles annually of its Château Branaire Ducru. The vineyards are planted to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22 % Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.

At Château Branaire Ducru, fermentation takes place in 28 temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. The average length of maceration lasts about 21 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in tank. The wine of Château Branaire Ducru is aged in 60 to 65% new, French oak barrels for between 16-20 months. The amount of new oak varies depending on the quality, character and style of the vintage.

Black cherry, vanilla and purple flowers shine in this elegant wine, showing fine tannins in the focused finish. Approachable style; clean, fresh and light. Pairs well with duck confit with salad frisee or baked ham steak.
