Domaine de Hospices de Nuits is a similar, but much smaller charity wine auction house located in Nuits St Georges, taking place on the last Sunday before Easter, and heralded by the Nuits St.Gearges half-marathon.
They don’t get quite the media attention as the famous Hospics de Beaune, but the hospital is still functional and taking care of the sick and elderly, making this more special to my heart. The wines are all hand harvested and de stemmed, under the care of Jean-Marc Moron. This bottle in particular is by Anne Gros, the wine is rich, full bodied, and elegant. Not quite as muscular and “rough around the edges” compared to other Nuits St Georges wines, and it’s drinking really balanced and beautifully.
93 Points Robert Parker
“Anne Gros is the present guardian of six barrels of a 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Vignerondes that were auctioned by the Hospices de Nuits. It has a ripe, raspberry coulis and wild strawberry-scented bouquet with a light marine influence. The palate is rounded and generous on the entry, Anne's racking in used barrel tempering the oak influence, revealing lovely mineral tones towards the finish. This is a really quite adorable Nuits-Saint-Georges.”
