🍇 About This Wine: 】🍇

Chateau Canon is a stylish Bordeaux wine sitting on top of the classic limestone plateau of the region. This is a wine with real sensation of minerality and dark berry fruits, coupled with an opulent personality, it’s a wine for consumers with patience. That is because Chateau Canon often takes at least 10-15 or more years before it’s open and ready to drink. (Isn’t that great we found you a bottle already in its drinking window?)

“Clos Canon” is their second label, only around 2500 cases made each year (the name changed to Croix Canon after the 2012 vintage, gets a bit confusing out on the market). I love finding second label wine by fantastic producer from a legendary year, it’s always a win-win for the consumer! Great taste and reasonable price!!

Chateau Canon has went through a bit of rollercoaster ride, in the 80s, it was regarded as equal to, sometimes even surpassing, that of the St Emilion super-growths Cheval Blanc and Ausone, but a miserable decade in the 90s led to a lack of confidence in Canon.

Now under new leadership, Canon is back at its best being marvelously rich, deep and concentrated wine, full-bodied and well structured, and reward you with magnificent taste when matured! It remains a mystery why this win is not better known! (But good for us, as the price is extremely reasonable!)

🍷 It Tasted like…. 🍷

Tons and tons of dark fruits, blackberry, black cherry, plum and black currant, with the 2010 vintage is’ full of power and need a couple hours of decanting. Earthy forest floor with some tobacco and leather undertone. There is a silky smooth mouthfeel going toward the back of the palate, expressive nose and great color.

💯【Scores – It matters to some】💯

92 Points James Suckling
A young red with bitter chocolate and berry character. Full body, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Refined and very pretty. The second wine of Canon. Hard not to drink now, but better in 2016.

91 Points Robert Parker
An elegant, attractive blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc cropped at 35 hectoliters per hectare, this wine tips the scales at 15% natural alcohol which, given the more elegant style sought at Canon, tells readers a lot about how powerful the 2010 vintage was across all the appellations of Bordeaux. Exhibiting plenty of raspberry, blueberry and black cherry fruit as well as some crushed rock/chalky minerality and a floral note, this very impressive Canon is backward, structured and precise. Give it 7-8 years of bottle age and drink it over the following three decades

90 Points Wine Spectator
This has ripe fruit, but takes a more charming approach, offering flavors of cherry preserves and cassis, with flecks of spice, wrapped with a supple licorice note and nicely integrated apple wood character. Drink now through 2020.
